Bonjour , Today Room 1 and the year 5 boys from room 2 , went on a journey to Travis Wetlands our instructor was Peter and Tracy . We learnt lots of things about Travs Wetlands and what happens at Travis Wetlands .
As soon as we got there we saw lots of Pukekos , walking around the place , We started off by taking a little walk to a place where it floats on top of the water . We listened to a podcast about how Europeans took up most land after the podcast we did something that was kind of a fun game it was where 5 or 8 people were chosen to pick something out of a Kete and guess what it is . Our first thing was a sieve .
We had to say these sentences where Travis Wetlands acts or is like this or that . These were the sentences
Travis Wetlands acts like a sieve . Travis Wetlands is a b&b for animals . Travis Wetlands is a airport for birds . Travis Wetlands acts like a sponge .
Travis Wetlands is a nursery for birds .
After that we were split up into 2 groups for my first activity we talked about birds and what their names were . Then we got binoculars to spot birds There were lots of birds the birds I spotted were Black Swans , and Ducks , I didn’t see many birds but there was lots of info and names for birds .
( The names for some birds ) Paradise shell duck , Canadian Geese , Black swan , Grey speckled duck , mallard welcome swallows , and the black cormorant .
The best part and my favourite part was bug finding when we had a sieve on a stick and had to swish it around in the water and the sieve would collect bugs . We had a container with 6 parts and the different bugs had to be split up so the bigger bugs don’t eat the small bugs .The most interesting bug we found was a bug that looks like a scorpion .
At the end we learnt about food chains . But an interesting fact was when Tracy said the Wetlands drain connects to some drains and the pollution in the drains goes to the Wetlands .
Have you been to Wetlands before ?
What’s your favourite or a bird you love ?
