Week 5 of Winter Sports 🏐 ⛳

Ciao,

Today me and my friend Kiara had to fill in for the Year 7/8 Netball team again. We played against Marshlands White and dominated, we got many intercepts and were scoring point after point. Other than that Marshlands played well and were filled with kindness. Luckily there was no subs meaning we all got a full game and got to try out new positions, I played GK three times and GS once. The final score was 20-6 (we won).

After netball, Henry’s dad dropped us off at Capture The Flag. Once we got there we wasted no time and ran so that we could get there on time and we did. Unfortunately the Capture The Flag team lost their previous game, meaning we lost our winning streak! Although they lost I do know they gave it their very best. But at least we won against Rawhiti, the final score was 8-0.

How did your winter sport game go?

The spectators point of view 👀

Hola,

This week room 10 has been learning about poems and one of our activities was to write our very own poem including the 5 senses sight, touch, taste, smell, and hear. Once we had completed writing our poem we then had to create a Google Video and put the poem into it. And lastly record ourselves reading the poem.

This activity was really fun and simple, the only challenging part was looking for images that match my poem. I chose my poem to be based on “The spectators point of view” because Dancing Like The Stars ⭐ is coming up.

Here is my example ⬇

My video about Anzac Poppies 🌷

Talofa,

Since Anzac Day is coming up room 10 has been learning about 4 different kinds of Poppies. Once we did some research and understood the meanings of each poppy we then had to create a Google Video about all four of the poppies and show what they’re called and what they mean. This activity did take me some time but at least I completed it before the due date. Surprisingly I actually really enjoyed this activity, because I only ever knew about the red poppies.

Here is my video, as you watch and read it I hope you learn something new!

What Anzac Poppies did you already know?

NBC NETS vs MAIREHAU 🏐 !!

Kia Ora,

Today both me and Kiara had to fill in for the Year 7/8 Netball team because unfortunately 2 girls had gotten injured during the weekend. We arrived at Rawhiti Courts and it was packed teams were everywhere.

During the first quarter it started to rain, and by the second quarter, every court was flooded and slippery. Making it difficult to pass, catch, and run. At first I was a bit nervous because of the big height difference. But in the end it was a success and we took the win by 14-5!

Although we won, our game play was really messy. Maybe next time we could have gone through some strategies beforehand. And lastly the hardest part in my opinion was dealing with the other team’s constant contact & obstruction that the refs didn’t call.

If you do play Netball, what position do you play?

Back for Round Three ⛳

Kia Ora,

Today the capture the flag team went against Rawhiti & South New Brighton. Both games were heated and close but luckily we ended up winning both games and keeping our title “UNDEFEATED”.

For our first game we played Rawhiti at 1:05. They were really fast and good at stepping. At first they were in the lead by 1 then we slowly built our way up taking the lead near the end.The score was 2 – 1.

Then for our last game we played South New Brighton. Some of them were fast and good at both stepping and passing. But we also had some benefits, we had speed and constant teamwork with great plans. In the end the score was 6 – 4. We still needed more work on our passes, but otherwise our defense was on fire and our attackers gave every halve, game, and run their very best.

What sport do you play?

Winter Sports Kickoff Week 2 🏅✌

Talofa,

This Friday the capture the flag  team played Marshlands and Rawhiti at Thomson Park. Unfortunately I forgot both scores but I do know we won both of our games.

As we were about to start I just knew it was going to be a tough match against both schools and I was right.

For our first game we went against Marshlands, they were indeed very fast and had funny but great strategies. Each time we had to reset, they kept a couple of players back to defend their half while most of their team pushed forward. Which made it difficult to rip their tags because whenever we focused on one player, another would break through and make it into the box. In the end we won, but it was definitely not easy.

After that game we had a short break to reset ourselves, have a bit of fun and think of strategies that would help us do better in the next game.

A COUPLE MINUTES LATER !!

It was finally time for our last game. We played Rawhiti and once again they were really fast and good at stepping. They were in the lead for a while until we started working together as a team. One of our strategies was for all the defenders to rip the tags of the fastest players and keep them in the same area, while the attackers stalled for time and gave everyone a chance to catch their breath.
Outside of school what sport do you play, and how did it go?

Beginning of Winter Sports 🎽 🏆 !!

Ciao,

At New Brighton Catholic School we compete in a competition called Winter Sports. Today was the beginning of winter sports meaning once you become a year 5-8 you get the option to pick a sport, come to school in your PE gear, and play at all kind of areas. Such as the Canopy, Rawhiti School, Thompson Park, Rawhiti Domain, and both fields across from the Canopy. All on a Friday!

Every year there are a variety of sports and options such as Soccer, Touch, Netball, Multi-Sport, and Capture The Flag. But out of all of them me and my friends Kiara, Leisha,Lilia, and Despina chose Capture the flag.

We started our season with a friendly match against a team of year 4 and 5 students. Every time we scored or I had to pull a tag, I couldn’t help but feel a little guilty for playing so hard against a group of adorable kids. So instead I let them pass.

Then afterwards we had a quick break and carried on to play against Marshlands.Out of all the games I have played, Marshlands was my favorite they matched our energy, were as energetic as us, and even encouraged us to keep going after every mistake we made. And so did we.

For our last game we played South New Brighton, they were really quiet but had lots of skills. Unfortunately I forgot both scores for the last 2 games, but all I know is that we won. My highlight for today was having a great time with my friends and the non-stop laughter.

What’s your favorite part of Winter Sports?

Cross Country🏃

Kia Ora,

Last Friday, the Years 4 to 8 students did the senior cross-country track which was 1 kilometer long. Year 4 students ran one lap, while the Year 5 and 6 students completed two laps for a total of 2 kilometers. To wrap up the event, the Year 7 and 8 students pushed their limits by completing three laps, covering a total distance of 3 kilometers.

Before each group of year grades set off we did a warm up with Miss Kenny, which helped us calm down and be prepared. Surprisingly, I wasn’t as nervous as usual I was actually a bit excited. We lined up and Mr Grey got his 2 big wooden blocks out and slammed them together making a big bang, that was our que to start running.

As we set off I felt way much faster and better than I did last year. In the end I placed 2nd which I was really proud of because I didn’t stop once and finished strong. But maybe next time I could have started sprinting earlier on the last lap.

Do you enjoy cross country?

The intermediates start of Dancing Like The Stars 🪩 🌟

Bonjour,

The lucky intermediates have gotten the opportunity to compete in a dance competition called Dancing Like The Stars! For dancing like the stars we will be circus dancing which made us all lit up in excitement with loads of ideas coming to mind.

On the first 2 days of term 2 we walked from school all the way to New Brighton Circus to practice and try little stunts. Which was really fun but difficult because of me and my buddies height difference. Our instructors are Lisa and Chris, they’ve taught us tricks we can do with poi, how to pick up a diabolo along with making it spin really fast and how to catch it, and lastly some hula hoop tricks.

So far I’ve really enjoyed everything, and I think our dance is going to come out great !

What type of dance do you enjoy?

Surfing in New Brighton 🏄

Last week the intermediates got an exciting opportunity to go Surfing in New Brighton!

Everyone came to school in their winter sports uniform ready to catch some waves, you could see the excitement gushing through the wind. At 9 : 30 that was our time to go we were all so eager we had no patience, we had finally exited school and made our way to the beach. As we were walking we took some pictures and stopped to look at some art.

It was finally time! We had all arrived safely at the beach, right on time. The air was chilly, and sand whipped through the wind, while the sun hid behind the clouds. As usual we had 4 lovely instructors teach us how to surf, what to do if we were in danger, and safety rules.

Then we all quickly got changed into our togs and swimsuits, then dashed off racing into the water to catch as many waves as we could before it was time to leave.

Can you stand while surfing?
